Lathan Williams (born 1975 in Vallejo, California), better known by his stage name Young Lay, is a San Francisco Bay Area-based rapper. He has worked with artists such as label mate Ray Luv, Tupac Shakur and Mac Dre.
On May 17th, 1996, Lay's infant son Le-Zhan Williams was kidnapped after 2 teenage girls murdered the new mother and set the house she resided in on fire. Daphne Boyden, the 17 year old girlfriend of the rapper lived with her grandmother at the time of her pregnancy. After the child was born many well-wishers came to their house to greet the baby and mother, the girlfriend of an up and coming rapper. On the day of the abduction Boyden's grandmother left for bingo as two well-wishers, clearly familiar to the new mother, came to stop by. Moments later Daphne Boyden was murdered by the two teenagers who then took the boy but not before setting the house on fire to cover up the crime. The case was featured on America's Most Wanted as well as Unsolved Mysteries.
The case went unsolved until November 2002 when an anonymous tip called in to Vallejo police led to the arrest of Latasha Brown and her mother Delores Ann Brown. The boy was unharmed and eventually reunited with family. This followed a 1995 attempt on Lay's life where he was shot in the head whilst stopped at a Vallejo traffic light as a passenger in a friend's car. Although critically injured, Lay survived and went on to resume rapping after extensive therapy for brain damage in which he had to learn to speak again.
